OMM50: Competitor Update. History, Training, Travel

Almost 4 weeks to go! We hope your preparation, in whatever form it takes, is going well.

Yesterday we had a trip down memory lane. At OMM headquarters there’s a very special filing cabinet which contains a folder for each race. The folders date back to 1968 and have all the letters, maps & documents associated with the respective year. If OMM had a holy grail it would be that filing cabinet. Looking inside it is like looking back through 50 years of the UK outdoor community. A who’s who of running legends, product creators & influential people appear at some point in those files.

Jen Longbottom & Paddy Buckley came by to provide their experience whilst we all looked through the history. Jen, the „godmother“ of the OMM was event director for over 30 years.  Paddy, creator of the famous Paddy Buckley round planned the 1979 & 76 race as well as competing in many years.

Paddy Buckley

As you can imagine listening to Jen & Paddy talk was incredibly humbling. It was interesting to hear the challenges they faced and the stories from over the decades. Their discussions will be in a film we’re making about the history of the OMM. But there will be more info about that in the future.

Both Paddy & Jen are both looking forward to being at the 50th race.
